11/2 stick (6 oz) unsalted butter
3/ 4 cup powdered sugar
3 eggs, yolks and whites separated
1 ts vanilla extract
2 cups unbleached flour
1/2 cup peeled almond slivers
Heat the oven to 375° F. Cream the butter and the sugar with a mixer. Add egg yolks one by one and keep beating. Mix in the vanilla and the flour to a soft dough. Shape into pecan-size balls and dip their tops halves in the whisked egg whites. Arrange on a parchment paper-covered baking sheath. “Hedgehog” the balls with the almond slivers. Bake until golden brown.
