
This is an old fashioned dessert and part of
the Bulgarian Christmas tradition. It is so
light and refreshing that it could be translated
to the modern and sophisticated ones today.
Play with different fruit combinations. Many
times people drink the liquid only. You can
add more water and simmer again. It is
amazing how much more flavor can be
extracted from the fruit. Add some hard
liquor and you have punch-a great starter for a
party.
7 oz dried apricots
5 oz dried figs
5 oz dried prunes
3 oz dried pears
5 c filtered cold water
2- 3tbs sugar or honey 1 c white wine
2 tbs lemon juice
3- 4 whole cloves
15 almonds, peeled
In a large pot, combine dried fruit and water. Bring to boil over medium heat. Add wine, sugar/honey, cloves. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, add lemon juice and chill. Garnish with the almonds.
